In the Kitchen

I have been cooking with my mom my entire life. She has taught me so many things about food and cooking. I always have the best time with her and not just because we create and explore with food, it’s because we spend time together and bond really well.

Thinking back I have many fun memories with my mom in the kitchen but this specific memory really stands out to me. When I was younger my mom and I used to watch the food network together on television. Our favourite shows were Barefoot Contessa, Cooking with Rachel Ray, Emerald and Iron Chef! After we would watch these we would go to the kitchen and begin to create our own recipes.

I always loved to pretend that I had my very own cooking show that was on the food network. My mom would play along with my idea and I was the head chef while she was the sue chef. We would speak out loud and demonstrate how to cook, step by step to the “camera” that was filming us for our show. We would laugh more then anything and just have an amazing time! I remember how much I loved doing this with my mom and to me it was the best thing to do in the world.

My mom taught me so many skills about cooking at such a young age and this really helps me now. My mom would always say, “Never use a recipe, just let your imagination run wild.” This saying has and always will stick with me when I am in the kitchen.

Cooking without a recipe is exhilarating and exciting, you never know what you are going to create and how it is going to taste and that is the fun part. This memory is one of my fondest and I am proud to say that my mom and I know how to have a goodtime in the kitchen!
